A week in Orlando with the family is never a bad thing. However, when you’ve done it previously and when it replaces a romantic trip for two in the Florida Keys it can feel a little ‘average’.
Nevertheless, we had a good week, visiting the Disney parks this time around and generally having a fun time. The highlights for me were Typhoon Lagoon and Animal Kingdom.
Waterparks and especially Disney waterparks are always a great way to spend a day topping up the tan, being a big kid and moaning about queuing! The lazy river and tube slides are fun, but the best part of Typhoon Lagoon is the wave pool or “Boom…Aaarrrggghhhh” as Amanda calls it. The noise, the height of the wave and the force with which it hits you is amazing. Animal Kingdom is what I refer to as ‘Disney for adults’. I love zoos and wildlife parks, so Animal Kingdom hits the mark. In addition to the safari tour there are plenty of other rides and attractions, with Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids being my personal favourites. The newest ride was the Avatar Flight of Passage, which is a 3D virtual flight through the Avatar world. This gave me mild motion sickness to be honest and I was relieved when everyone decided that the queue was too long to do it again!
The rest of the trip was standard fair, with good food, limited drink due to driving duties and plenty of family time. Maybe we’ll get chance to do our Florida Keys road trip next year.
